Gilas game in a bodega

THE EAR - The Freeman

FIBA ASIA. Basketball fans in Metro Manila paid thousands of pesos to see the Gilas Pilipinas team play in the MOA Arena. Here in Cebu -- somewhere in San Nicolas -- slum dwellers without TV sets saw the Gilas Pilipinas play on a wide-screen TV set for only 50 pesos per person.

BODEGA. An Ear informer said the wide-screen TV was set up in a bodega owned by a rice-corn trader, who donated the entire proceeds from the project to a church organization. On the last day of the Gilas game, the proceeds were used to buy evening snacks for the fans, the informer said.
