Safety in Gasoline

READERS'VIEWS - Jesson J. Morata - The Freeman

We visit gas stations every time we need to refuel our vehicles, or to buy stuff, say in convenience shops just within the vicinity.   But is a fact that often, many don't bother to think about the potential threats involved.

I would like to bring to the attention of management regarding what I have observed in one of gasoline stations, specifically located in A.S. Fortuna St. Mandaue City last July 10, 2013 at around 2 AM.

While fueling up, a handful of taxi drivers were converging near the convenience store chatting, perhaps waiting for passengers or just letting time pass by. What surprised me most was seeing one of the taxi drivers puffing a cigarette, just a few meters away from the gas pump machine.

What he actually did posed grave danger to the people within the surrounding area, as well as compromising the business, and would have caused unwarranted loss of lives and properties. The guard on duty did not even bother to admonish the said driver.

It should be evoked that safety and welfare of the people should always be primordial to everyone. Public safety is an essential element of general welfare.

I would just like to let you know what I witnessed this past Saturday. My wife and I were traveling along the road that runs parallel to the airport runway. I think it is Basak. In front of us was a barangay truck from Punta Engano. We watched in horror as a passenger threw a large 16 inch square box of rubbish (empty polystyrene food packaging) onto the side of the road. I called them pigs but they just hung their head in shame. We are trying to teach our kids to keep this country clean.
