Senators of the old days

THE EAR - The Freeman

PRESIDENTIABLES. A retired Manila-based journalist who covered Congress (the Senate and the House) for more than 20 years told a TV forum: “The senators during my time were mostly presidentiables.” He mentioned names like Salonga, Recto, Roxas, Manglapus, Osmeña, Marcos, etc. “In fact,” he said, “some of them had actually seen action in the presidential battlefield.”

WORTH LISTENING TO. Our Ear informer, the journalist, said when those senators (whom he mentioned) took to the rostrum to speak, members of the press (local and foreign) would listen attentively because there was always something “very worthy of space” on page one. “I am only speaking of the senators I covered in the old days,” explained the journalist.
