Christ, our best gift

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

“Today is born our Savior, Christ the Lord.”

There will be those who will say that this message is ahead by 3 days as Christmas is still on the 25th. For those, however, who consider each day as the day Christ and God the Father, with their love, came to the world, came to everyone’s hearts as well, then Christmas Day is TODAY.

“What day is it, asked Pooh?” “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet. “My favorite day,” said Pooh.

May each day be Christmas, the day we receive our best gift of all, God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. May each day be Christmas for all, may each day be everyone’s favorite day, a day full of love and peace.

Let us recall and reflect on THAT day the Lord was born. The shepherds went about their regular task of watching their sheep. Their day, however, changed forever when they were blessed, not only with the heavenly choir but most especially with their Bethlehem experience of seeing the Child in the manger! The 3 wise men from the East were also blessed with seeing the Savior they were searching for! They would all have missed their Bethlehem moments if they had not gone to seek and find Christ!

Such a Holy Night for them, such a Holy Night for us all as well, for the birth of Christ gave us God’s gift of all: His Son and His love, the greatest gift of all! And on earth, peace and goodwill to all (Luke 2:14)!

Let us reflect even more on that blessed day when God restored us all back to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. God sent His stars and His angels, a heavenly background for a heavenly choir! Wow, can you imagine the splendor and beauty of that stellar spectacle? Can you also imagine the sweetness and grandeur of that heavenly choir?

Contrast that with the simple background where the Son of God, wrapped in swaddling clothes, was born, in a lowly manger because there was no room for Mama Mary and Joseph in the inn.

The King of Kings, the Son of God, God the creator of all born in a manger because there was no room in the hearts of men. How many will welcome and reserve a special place for God and His Son in their hearts this Christmas and each day through their lives?

God was born that Christmas night- the darkness to symbolize the darkness that surrounds us in this world? But the night God gave His Son, the night Christ was born was a night full of stars and songs. Darkness and night that visit us all each day can turn into bright, song-filled moments when we allow God, His Son, and their love into our hearts!

Despite the darkness of the night, the stars and the songs filled the earth and changed what would have been an ordinary working day into a beautiful Bethlehem experience of peace, love, songs and light for the shepherds. And that is also what Christmas, what each day should mean for us. Despite the light, darkness. Instead of despair, hope, peace, and love.

Night also heralds the dawn and a new day. Christmas should always remind us that each day brings in the dawn after the dark. Hope, peace, and love are promised to all, not only on the 25th day of December, but for each day, for every day that is Christmas to us all.

A God-blessed Christmas to you all! Enjoy God’s best gift for us all, Christ, love, and peace, God’s love and peace!
