CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause to charge a man before the court for allegedly threatening to kill and hitting his 11-year-old daughter.
Associate Prosecution Attorney Jennifer Karen Alo-Leyson held the 38-year-old man for trial for a violation of Section 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
The accused and the alleged victim are residents of Lower Acacia, Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City.
The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the parties due to the sensitive nature of the case.
“…the said accused, with deliberate intent, did then and there commit other acts of child abuse or other conditions prejudicial to the child’s development, towards his daughter, by punching the latter’s head thrice, cursing at her and threatening to kill her, which acts debase, degrade or demean the intrinsic worth and dignity of his child as a human being,” read the document.
Leyson recommended P80,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the accused.
In her sworn statement, the minor alleged that at around 1 p.m. on November 7, 2015, while she was at the house of her aunt, her father arrived and later mauled her.
She claimed her father was high on illegal drugs at that time.
The 33-year-old aunt backed the statement of the victim, saying her niece was in the house watching television on November 7 when her brother, the father of the victim, arrived and shouted the name of his daughter.
“My niece then stood up with a lot of fear in her face for she knew that his father would beat him again. My niece then approached my brother and asked him what he wanted,” she said, adding her brother threatened to kill her daughter.
The aunt also alleged that her brother always physically maltreated his daughter. (FREEMAN)
