CEBU, Philippines – A 33-year-old man was found quivering after allegedly drinking cyanide yesterday morning inside their house in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City.
Live-in partner Rezel Pandia, 31, saw Jerry Savedo clutching a bottle of iced tea mixed with cyanide inside their room, according to Police Officer 2 Jomar Florentino, case investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.
Initial investigation showed that Pandia saw Savedo around 7 a.m. in their room, using his mobile phone reportedly texting someone.
After 45 minutes, Pandia heard a "disturbing" noise from their room, according to Florentino.
She went to the room out of curiosity and to check what Savedo was doing at that moment, but Pandia was shocked to see her live-in partner fighting for his life while holding the bottle.
Florentino said Savedo allegedly mixed the drink with cyanide before taking it.
Pandia sought help of her neighbors in the barangay and rushed Savedo to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital but the victim was declared dead on arrival.
Florentino said this was the third time that Savedo attempted to end his life, according to the accounts of Pandia.
His live-in partner and their families did not know what has caused the victim to commit suicide.
