METROPOLICE: Gas station cashier nabbed

CEBU, Philippines - A cashier of a gasoline station on Plaridel Street in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City was arrested by her own employer last Tuesday morning after she was caught in the act of stealing the proceeds of the establishment where she works.

Marijoy Macalisang, 30, with live-in partner and a resident of Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City, was arrested by her own employer Erika Venice Ong-Hayco, 26, of Beverly Hills, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City and owner of Phoenix gasoline station.

Macalisang allegedly stole P12,090 in cash which was the earnings of the gas station during the time that she rendered work as a cashier.

Police investigation revealed that Ong-Hayco was already suspicious against Macalisang after there were already discrepancies in the previous daily cashier's sales reports.

Because of this, she personally and discreetly monitored Macalisang and waited for the latter to leave the cashier's booth on Tuesday morning.

Sensing there was again a low turnout of their sales, Ong-Hayco, with the help of her other staff, frisked on Macalisang.

Ong-Hayco recovered cash from the possession of the suspect and immediately called for police assistance.

The suspect is currently detained at the Subangdaku Police Station pending the filing of a qualified theft case against her. —  Flor Z. Perolina (FREEMAN)
