CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City schools division superintendent Woodrow Denuyo, who is also the board secretary of the controversial Talisay City College, yesterday said there is a vacuum at the city college since there is no sitting president.
This is after a month Engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr. was appointed acting school president by the board and who is no longer inclined and interested in the position.
"There is a vacuum. I think there is an urgency to select and appoint another TCC president after Engineer Vicente is no longer interested," Denuyo told The FREEMAN.
Last July 17, the TCC appointed Vicente as temporary caretaker of the city college following the resignation of Dr. Joseph Sol Galleon and the refusal of Ester Velasquez to accept the post.
But since his appointment, Vicente failed to assume the position after Mayor Johnny De los Reyes did not sign his appointment papers following a manifesto signed by some students, alumni and faculty members of the school declaring their opposition to the installation.
Those who signed the manifesto against Vicente said he could not effectively handle his new position since he is already "loaded with work" as acting Talisay City engineer and acting dean of the University of the Visayas College of Engineering and Architecture.
Under the TCC charter, the school president is required to work full time.
In a separate interview, Vicente said he will not be pushing himself to become the president of the school if the mayor will not sign his appointment papers.
"There are so many issues that came out. I am no longer interested," Vicente said. He did not further elaborate. (FREEMAN)
