Tan brothers gird for major jiu-jitsu tilts in US

CEBU, Philippines — Brothers Jared and Jansen Tan, who were among those honored at the 38th Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Beer (SAC-SMB) Cebu Sports Awards just last month, brace themselves for two major jiu-jitsu tournaments in the United States this year.

First off, the young but promising US-based Cebuano martial artists will strut their wares in the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation s Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Florida this July.

The eight-year-old Jared, who bagged gold medal at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023, will show his stuff in the 30-kilogram weight division, while his older bother Jansen, a bronze medalist in Abu Dhabi, will see action in the 27 kgs. category.

They are currently training with Professor Taniel Abu Jesus of Najure Jiujitsu in Sanford, North Carolina.

Apart from the Pan American Championships, Jared will also compete in the invite-only Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Youth Championship this August at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before the year ends, the Tans are planning to participate again in the Abu Dhabi Championship in November.
