CEBU, Philippines — As he travels to Japan two weeks from now, Cebuano boxer Yeroge “The Scientific” Gura will bring along with him an extra luggage.

That is to end the two-fight jinx of his ARQ stablemates in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The 21-year-old Gura (8-0-1, 3KOs) hopes to accomplish that tough mission as he slugs it out with Japanese brawler Ayumu Sano (8-01, 4KOs) in an exciting battle of undefeated fighters on June 23 at the Twin Messe in Shizuoka, Japan.

At stake in their 10-round rumble is the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth super flyweight crown.

Gura is the third ARQ ring gladiator to invade Japan in a span of six months.

The first two fell short.

Johnpaul “Angas ng Cebu” Gabunilas lost via a controversial fifth round TKO to Kanamu Sakama on the undercard of Naoya Inoue-Marlon Tapales undisputed super bantamweight championship match on December 26 last year at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Just four nights ago, Rodex “The Tank” Piala tasted defeat for the first time in his career by unanimous decision against Japanese champion Kenji Fujita in their 12-round duel for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific featherweight belt at the Korakuen Hall also in Tokyo.

The task is now in Gura’s hands to exact vengeance at their Japanese tormentors.
