Cebu City gymnasts continue to sizzle
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Team Cebu City’s gymnasts continue to sparkle as the Ninos pull away with 15 golds, five silvers and 10 bronzes in the second day of action in the 2019 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet at the Negros Oriental State University gym here yesterday.
Mariane Alegado, a student of the University of Cebu, bagged a total of four individual golds for TCC through the rope, ball, clubs and individual all-around in gymnastics competition.
Alegado also got a silver in the ribbon won by her teammate Alex Cruz of the University of San Jose-Recoletos. Cruz added four bronzes to her medal haul.
UC’s Jazeerah Arielle Ona, for her part, handed four silvers and a bronze.
Alegado, Ona and Cruz then put their acts together to hand another gilt for Cebu City in the team event.
Over at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, Shaula Fernelli Santiago of the University of San Carlos handed Team Cebu City’s first gold in athletics through the secondary girls discus throw with a heave of 27.40 meters.
Two other USC bets posted a 2-3 finish in secondary shotput, with Dominic Johilio Woodard winning the silver and John Joseph Berdin delivering bronze.
Jemar Morales of Abellana National School picked up bronze through the secondary boys 5,000m run.
Chess player Aaron Senining grabbed two golds in the secondary boys blitz and team event together with Dwayne Borgonia.
Bohol Province, on the other hand, won two golds, one silver and two bronzes, so far.
Bohol produced the first gold medal in athletics behind the efforts of AZdrian Cagas in the 5,000m run with a time of 16 minutes and 45 seconds.
Cebu Province also bagged two golds plus one silver and one bronze. The golds came from long jumper Oliver Alinganga and shot putter Kirby Lanza in the secondary division.
Jake Ian Galo also made his presence by turning over Bogo City’s first gold via the elementary boys shotput with a 7.28m best.
The other athletics gold was taken by Tagbilaran City’s John Cliven Janohan in the elementary boys long jump. (FREEMAN)
