CEBU, Philippines - The triumvirate of Johnrey Girasol, Jed Llena and Christopher James Durango stole the show as the QBE Generals whipped the Dyninno Raptors, 66-48, for a rousing 4-0 start in the 12th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Girasol had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Llena added 13 markers on top of four rebounds and two assists as the Generals joined the Kyocera Frontiers at second place in the Evo League.
Durango scored 10, passed out eight assists to go along with five rebounds and two steals for the Generals, who were never threatened after taking an early 19-11 lead. Overall in the final half, they outpointed the Raptors, 33-22.
Rainier Dominic Obenza was the lone double-digit scorer with 10 for the Raptors, who dropped to 2-3.
In the other Evo League game, Jade Seno sparkled with 23 points laced with six rebounds, three assists and two steals as The Results Spartans finally barged into the win column with a 65-40 slaying of the Blue Ocean Pirates.
Winston Pacaldo unloaded 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks to help teh Spartans snap a three-game slump. Paul Romwell Amit had 13 points and 11 rebounds but his efforts went for naught as the Pirates fell to 1-3.
In the Elite Classic, Patrick Ybañez and Esrom Cuizon had 19 points each, even as they also combined for 16 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the ePerformax Reds' 74-60 trouncing of the SSI Warriors, while Sherwin Anghay lead five players in twin figures with 16 as the Sykes Pioneers romped past the Wipro Tigers, 80-58.
Nolan de la Peña banged in 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Reds, who now holds a 3-1 win-loss record, while Jhoneil Geraldizo, Melecio Villaplaza, Vernie Jose Diotay and Gerald Bien Galarido conspired for 43 points as the Pioneers evened their slate to 2-2.
The Warriors and Tigers, on ther other hand, further wallowed at the cellar without victory in four starts. (FREEMAN)
