A+EBA’s 1st Corporate Cup ugets undwerway today

CEBU, Philippines - On the heels of the success of its maiden offering billed as the ‘Davies Paints Cup,’ the Architects+Engineers Basketball Association looks forward to another friendly, yet highly competitive hardcourt battle as it kicks off its 1st Corporate Cup today at the University of San Carlos-Main gym.

The event was formally launched by the A+EBA officials led by their president Paolo Alberto the other night at Sunburst-Mango branch. He was joined by Josephril Partosa, Jun Villacorta, and Louien Jee Pepito, the league’s vice president for operations, tournament, and membership, respectively, Jessie Castillo (treasurer), Rey Nino Cag-ong (secretary), and Loreniel Tequin (auditor).

Before the opening games that will be determined by drawing of lots, a simple opening ceremony highlighted by the selection of best muse and the awarding of the individual achievers during the previous conference will take place at 6 p.m.

A total of six teams will vie for supremacy in the tournament that is expected to run for three months as it will be played on Saturdays only.

These are the Davies Paints, and Cabinet Members, Inc. (CMI), composed of licensed architects, Dorma and Fenestra Fabricators Co. both manned by mechanical engineers, Megabond Aluminum Cladding powered by civil engineers, and Phoenix Building System Corp. comprised of master plumbers.

They will play in a double round robin format, with the top four advancing into the crossover semifinals. The top two qualifiers will enjoy twice-to-beat incentives over the lower ranked squads.The winners will then clash for the championship in a best-of-three affair.

The top performing teams will receive specially-designed trophies courtesy of Giardini Del Sole.—EBV (FREEMAN)
