CEBU, Philippines - The Barangay Tisa Senior Citizen's Association will be staging the Siomai Festival Fun Run on September 19.
This marks for the first time that a senior citizens' group in the Queen City of the South is organizing a running event, said Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils President and Tisa Barangay Captain Philip Zafra in a press conference yesterday.
Organizing such kind of event helps senior citizens to be healthy at the same time have some fun together with the young ones.
The categories to be contested are the 3K for fun runners and senior citizens, 6K for executives and 9K open.
Aside from trophies and medals, a total of P50,000 is at stake for the top 10 placers in each division.
Zafra said they will be giving separate cash prizes for the top 10 seniors citizens to encourage more seniors to join the action, not only from their barangay but also from other parts of the city.
Aside from that, Zafra pledged to give an additional incentive to Tisa residents who will be included in the top 10 list under the 9K battle.
Special awards will also be given away to the biggest delegation, youngest and oldest finisher and best in costume.
Aside from promoting a healthy lifestyle, BTSCA President Rosita Bacolod said they are having this event as a fund-raising activity for their indigent seniors.
It is also among the highlights of Tisa's Siomai Festival and annual fiesta celebration in honor of their patron San Lorenzo Ruiz.
Entry forms are available at the Tisa barangay hall and at the PSC-7 office located at the Cebu City Sports Center.
For those who will register until August 31, they will get a discounted entry fee of P225 for the 3K, P270 for the 6K and P315 for the 9K. The regular registration fee is pegged at P250 for the 3K, P300 for the 6K, and 9K. (FREEMAN)
