CEBU, Philippines - A lung-busting double overtime game greeted the 10th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament that saw the 1&1 Marauders prevailing over the Telstra Boomerangs, 74-68, last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Raymaond Basañez darted 11 of his 21 points in the second extension to vault the Marauders to a rousing start. He also hauled seven rebounds, dished out five assists and the same number of steals to highlight his hardcourt versatility.
Before Basañez's heroics, it was Argiel Fernandez who became the saving grace for 1&1. He was fouled at the 3-point area with no time left, then hit 2-of-2 free throws to send the game into second overtime. Fernadez finished with 15 points on top of nine rebounds, six steals and three assists.
Basañez and Fernandez drew huge support Jan Isiah Gabest with 15 points, five steals and two rebounds.
Ivan Figuera was the lone double-digit scorer for Telstra with 14 points and six rebounds.
In the other game, the Wipro Tigers roared off to a masterful 67-34 win over the Microsourcing Bullies.
Reinario Salibay Jr. nailed 13 points, two rebounds and two steals for Wipro, which showed great team effort in its merciless of the league newcomers. The Tigers never looked back after a sizzling 18-8 start. They mellowed down in the second period, but blasted the Bullies in the final half, 37-15, resulting into a 33-point rout.
