CEBU, Philippines - Don Bosco United Football Club clinched the title in the under-23 division as they shutdown Subangdaku FC, 5-0, in the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Don Bosco United controlled the tempo the entire game and never gave Subangdaku FC a chance to connect with a goal.
Nigerian Christopher Ngwanta led Don Bosco United as he sinked four goals through the 6th, 9th, 37th, and 82nd minute of the game, while teammate Enh Famous added one on the last minute.
Aside from the title, four of the five special awards also went to Don Bosco players with Famous being the Most Valuable Player, Ngwanta as top scorer, Jay Vesin winning the best goal keeper and Exekpelazy Musa hailed as best defender. Subangdaku's John Michael Tasa was declared best midfielder.
On the other hand, University of San Carlos (USC) settled for the bronze medal in the under-23 with a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout victory against Leylam FC.
The Bosconians had something else to look forward to with Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) advancing into two finals appearance next week via under-13 and under-18 division.
DBTC defeated Canduman FC in their semifinals match, 3-0, in the under-18 to arrange a finals match against Paref-Springdale.
Meanwhile, DBTC’s under-13 bets will battle Dynamo FC booters for the under-13 title. (FREEMAN)
