CEBU, Philippines - It's home sweet home for the Bogo City-native Rene Navarro as he topped the Bogo 50-mile Ultramarathon Challenge yesterday.
Navarro finished the 80-kilometer action in 10 hours, 10 minutes and 92 seconds. The grueling race started and ended in Bogo via Kawit, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Maya, Talisay, and Curva.
Navarro completed the footrace, which started midnight, five hours before the cut-off time.
Boots Tanghal came out second with the time of 10:48:01, while Gezer Morales wound up third in 11:01:03.
Marjorie Jore lorded it over in the distaff side with a 11:29:04 clocking.
Arlene Pepito was second in 11:49:41, while Maricar Salimbangon copped the third place honors in 11:52:45.
A total of 40 runners opted to do the 50-mile action, according to event organizer Jonel Mendoza.
On the other hand, the Hardcore 100 saw Noel Tillor leading the 160-kilometer action after 78 kilometers or after the 15-hour cut-off.
By that checkpoint, Tillor clocked in seven hours and 38 minutes.
A total of 20 runners out of the 23 starters made it to the cut-off time. They will have to deal with another checkpoint on kilometer 112.
If the 20 of them will be able to make it to the next cut-off, they will be allowed to finish the action today. (FREEMAN)
