Aid distribution and job fairs expected on Labor Day

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-7 earlier announced that aside from holding job fairs and the Kadiwa nang Pangulo on May 1, 2024, they will also have a payout to thousands of displaced workers.

In a statement, DOLE said that a total of P300 million will be distributed on Labor Day under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers, and the DOLE Assistance on Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

For the commemorative program that will be held at Talisay City Sports Complex, the DILP distribution includes Cebu Provincial Field Office (CPFO) that will get over P23.4 million for 1,664 beneficiaries; the Tri-City Field Office (TCFO) with P4.5 million to 154 parents of child laborers; Negros Oriental Field Office (NOFO) with P3.2 million to 223 beneficiaries; Bohol Field Office (BFO) with P770,224 to 64 beneficiaries; and Siquijor Field Office (SFO) with P2.7 million to 184 beneficiaries.

The total amount for DILP is at P34.6 million for 2,289 beneficiaries.

While for TUPAD payouts, CPFO wil get P62 million; TCFO will have P47 million; NOFO with P39 million; BFO with P110 million; and SFO with P5 million. The overall amount is at P263 million.

Meanwhile, DOLE will be giving out an “Influencer Award” that will be presented to PESOs/Job Placement Offices, as well as private companies that have generated the highest average placement rating for the past three years and has been instrumental in the realization of the government’s objectives geared towards youth employability.

As for the Government Internship Program (GIP), there will be 39 GIPs that will participate in the ceremonial release of their stipend during the Commemorative Program. The said interns will work up to six months in their assigned offices.

DOLE-7 regional director Lilia Estillore in a press conference announced that Talisay City is this year’s host of the Labor Day event as over a thousand are expected to join the event at the said venue. — (FREEMAN)
