CEBU, Philippines — Three Cebu vice mayors were elected to the National Executive Committee of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines during its election held in Cebu City yesterday.

They are Tuburan Vice Mayor Democrito Diamante who was voted as the league’s executive vice president, Samboan Vice Mayor Emerito Calderon Jr. as vice president for the Visayas, and Catmon Vice Mayor Earl Tidy Oyas as press relations officer for the Visayas.

Diamante said the election yesterday was unopposed since no other slate filed their certificates of candidacy at the VMLP National Office in Quezon City.

After the election, the new set of officers immediately took their oath of office before Undersecretary Marivel Sacendoncillo of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Vice Mayor Donnabel Joy Mejia of the earthquake-stricken town of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur was reelected as national president.

The series of earthquakes in Mindanao regions prompted the VMLP to move their 26th National Convention from Davao City to Cebu City.

Around 600 city and municipal vice mayors participated in the event held at Marco Polo Plaza. VMLP has a membership of 1,636 vice mayors all over the country.  FPL (FREEMAN)
