CEBU, Philippines — For the second time this year, members of Santander Police Station conducted a coastal cleanup drive and collected at least 250 kilos of garbage last Saturday.
The activity dubbed as Scubasurero started at 6:30 a.m. and ended at around 11:00 a.m. At least 134 individuals, including local residents, police officers, coast guard personnel, barangay officials, and employees of beach resorts in Barangay Liloan, participated in the activity.
Police Officer 1 Jaymar Lelis of Santander Police Station said that one of the beach resorts offered scuba diving equipment that the volunteers used to collect garbage underwater.
Lelis said that the project was initiated by the town’s chief of police, Senior Inspector Margienett Yosores.
"Gihimo ni namo para naay pagpakabana ang mga tawo," Lelis said.
He added that they worked hand-in-hand with the residents since the project is for the benefit of everyone.
