CEBU, Philippines — Operatives of the Badian and Barili Police Stations successfully arrested last Wednesday in Barangay Poblacion, Barili, Cebu two brothers accused of murdering a couple last year.
The suspects, Richard and Rolando Avenido, were arrested through the implementation of a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 60 Assisting Judge Bernarditto Malabago.
Badian Police Chief Elmond John Mondaya said they received a report from a concerned citizen regarding the presence of the suspects in Barili which they immediately verified.
“Immediately, nakipag-coordinate ta sa Barili police and conducted the operation,” said Mondaya, in a phone interview with The FREEMAN.
He added that the suspects were hiding for more than a year after they allegedly shot dead the Sinugbuhan couple, Alane, 54, and Surlito, 53, inside their residence in Barangay Malabago, Badian last September 1, 2017.
The couple were eating supper together with their children when two men, allegedly wearing bonnets, barged in and, without apparent reason, shot them several times in front of their children.
Mondaya said that they have witnesses pointing to the Avenido brothers as the culprits, which led to the filing of the case against the siblings.
He also said that they are still conducting further investigation into the case since there are reports that the two suspects were just hired to kill the couple.
“Murag nasuguan ra daw ni sila duha,” said Mondaya.
The suspects are now temporarily detained at the Badian Police Station pending the proper turn-over to the issuing court. (FREEMAN)
