Municipal worker ‘bribes’ cop, arrested

CEBU, Philippines - A 45-year-old job order employee in Consolacion was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly attempting to bribe policemen who collared his nephew during a buy-bust operation.

Giovanni Pepito was caught in an entrapment operation after he handed P30,000 cash wrapped in a yellow envelope to Police Officer 2 Zeusito Veloso inside the Consolacion Police Station.

The money was allegedly meant for his nephew, Jeric Pepito, to be able to post bail on his drug charge.

Jeric, who was arrested last Tuesday dawn during an operation led by Chief Inspector Roderick Gonzales, was allegedly the number two drug personality in the town.

He and his uncle currently share the same jail inside the police station.

Police Officer 1 Macro Lanurias, Consolacion Police Station desk officer, said Giovanni told them he was just asked by Jeric’s father to hand the money to the police.

Lanurias, though, could not give the name of the father, saying there are a lot of Pepitos in Consolacion. (FREEMAN)
