Police nab man with submachine gun

CEBU, Philippines - A 28-year-old man was arrested by the police after he was caught bringing a high-powered firearm outside his house along V. Aranas Extension, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Jake Aliman, a computer technician, is now detained after voluntarily turning over the KG-9 submachine gun loaded with 23 live bullets which he claimed to be from two men who stole his motorcycle.

According to Police Officer 3 Bernie Calderon, a Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team member and one of the responding officers, they were patrolling at around 10 a.m. yesterday when they received a call from a concerned citizen that someone at V. Aranas Ext. fired a gun.

He said they proceeded to the area and checked the interior portions of V. Aranas Ext. to validate the information. Later, they saw Aliman outside his house bringing the firearm.

They reportedly advised the suspect to put the gun down to which the latter heeded. The policemen got hold of the firearm, immediately pinned the suspect down to the ground and handcuffed him.

“Wala man hinuon siya’y resistance. Nisunod ra man pud sa instruction,” said Calderon.

Aliman, in an interview, denied owning the firearm, alleging that he just grabbed it from someone who stole his motorcycle last September 11.

Yesterday morning, while walking along the road, he allegedly saw his motorcycle parked nearby with two men onboard.

He said he immediately approached the two to confront them about the motorcycle but the backrider allegedly pulled out the KG-9 submachine gun, which he allegedly managed to grab before the man could shoot him.

He allegedly went home while bringing the firearm with him and on his way met the carnappers again.

The two allegedly tried to shoot him once more, he said, but he managed to hide at the back of his house.  The carnappers allegedly escaped upon the arrival of SWAT personnel.

“Mao na akong giuli sa balay kay magpa-load lagi unta ko kay manawag og moresponde,” Aliman explained.

However, Calderon, who had been a neighbor of Aliman before moving out, said the suspect has been noted for bringing and firing a firearm in their area.

“Silingan mi sauna unya badlongon sad ni. Magpabuto og armas unya magdala-dala sad og armas,” the policeman said. (FREEMAN)
