PUJ pickup, drop-off point: Dry run deferred

CEBU, Philippines - Due to some obstructions at the APM Mall, the scheduled dry run yesterday for north-bound passenger jeepneys to use the mall parking lot as drop-off and pickup point has been deferred next month.

Romeo Armamento, chairman of the National Confederation of Transportworkers Union-Visayas, said there are structures that need to be modified accommodate the public jeepneys.

"Wa madayon kay naa pay usbon sa structure sa agianan. Kay ini’g sulod sa mga jeepney madusmo man," said Armamento.

Armamento said it was decided to move the dry run to November 8.

The drop-off and pickup point at the APM Mall will serve at least 500 PUJs plying to the towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, and Carmen and the cities of Danao and Lapu-Lapu.

Armamento said the passengers were already informed about the new pickup and drop-off point. He said they have been giving out leaflets to disseminate the information.

Armamento said they are looking at the possibility of making the area as permanent terminal. He said they have started processing the application to make it as their terminal in the north.

Armamento said they have been looking for a terminal so that the drivers will not just pick up passengers anywhere and avoid paying penalties for traffic violation. — (FREEMAN)
