CEBU, Philippines - A local transport group is pushing for the reaccreditation of the White Gold Terminal at the North Reclamation Area for north-bound public utility jeepneys.
The National Confederation of Transportworkers’ Union-Central Visayas wants to use the terminal in lieu of the SM City terminal.
“Amo-ang paninguhaon nga ma-reaccredit ang White Gold Terminal alang sa mga north-bound jeepneys,” said Romeo Armamento, NCTU-Central Visayas vice president.
Armamento said there is no accredited terminal for north-bound jeepneys at present.
“Ang nahitabo gud ron bisan asa na lang ni sila mo-parking unya ang multa kung madakpan daku na ra ba kaayo,” Armamento said.
The group earlier wanted to have a jeepney terminal at SM City Cebu but the mall management refused to accommodate NCTU due to lack of space.
SM City Cebu currently hosts a terminal for jeepneys from Southern Cebu City and a terminal for V-hire bound for Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, and other towns in Northern Cebu.
Amidst the huge penalties imposed under the Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, the same transport group is now coordinating with the City Integrated Traffic Operations Management for the determination of the jeepney stops in Cebu City within this month.
These jeepney stops identified by NCTU-CV are still subject to CITOM’s approval. Aside from Cebu City, the group is likewise pushing for the same in other cities within Metro Cebu.
He added that there is a need to have a dialogue between the local government units concerned and the transport sector for proper designation of PUJ stops.
NCTU-CV is composed of over 2,000 jeepney drivers as members plying 22 different routes in Cebu. (FREEMAN)
