CEBU, Philippines - Starting this Christmas season, cinema goers will watch infomercials aiming to promote reform for juvenile offenders.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development yesterday launched the agency’s cinema advertisement as part of its information campaign on Children in Conflict with the Law.
The three ads, 30 seconds each, were titled “The Road to Diversion of the CICL,” “Second Chance,” and “Batang May Sala (A Child Committing a Crime).”
These depict success stories of reformed CICL who were under government rehabilitation.
In time for the Metro Manila Film Festival in all SM cinemas in Metro Manila, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City, the ads can be watched for one week from December 25 to 31.
The videos emphasized that there is normal and productive life after rehabi-litation.
The general campaign of DSWD on CICL centers on the theme “Give a Second Chance to Children in Conflict with the Law.”
Reformation and rehabilitation of minor offenders are in support and implementation of the “Act Strengthening the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act in the Philippines,” otherwise known as Republic Act No. 10630.
An earlier law, RA No. 9344 or the “Juvenile Justice Welfare Act of 2006,” was amended by RA 10630.
DSWD-7 has a CICL rehabilitation center in Cebu which caters to offenders from the entire region.
This will be placed under the reformation and rehabilitation program of the government, hoping to give the children a chance to begin their life again. (FREEMAN)
