Korean survives eight-floor fall

CEBU, Philippines - A drunk Korean allegedly suffering from financial troubles has cable wires hanging 40 feet from the ground to thank for after they arrested his fall from the eight floor of a building he was staying in.

The Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section identified him as Kang Sung-Hwi, 46, of Hyosung, Korea.

The police said Kang just suffered “minor fractures” after he landed on the cable wires first before finally landing on the ground after falling off a midrise residential condominium building’s eight floor in Barangay Apas, Cebu City yesterday dawn.

Kang reportedly went to the balcony of his La Guardia Flats unit, where he has been staying since June, for fresh air but fell due to drunkenness while leaning on the railings.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ruth Violango said that while Kang suffered injuries, it could have been worse if not for the cable wires.

“Okay man siya. Dili kaayo dako ang impact sa iyang pagkatagak,” she said.

Kang told the police that prior to the incident, he was drinking liquor by himself inside his room.

He also admitted that he slashed his wrist several times using a dull kitchen knife.

“Daghan na siya og laslas na daan pero habol man ang kutsilyo,” Violango said.

Mae Canoy, 26, La Guardia Flats administrative officer, alleged that the victim did not open the door when unit owner Jocelyn Amante visited him last Tuesday to ask for rent payment.

Kang confessed that he was suffering from financial problems. Violango said the victim was a divorced man and is alone in Cebu. (FREEMAN)
