Shabu found in bag of CPDRC visitor

AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Security personnel at the Cebu Provincial Detention Rehabilitation Center found two packets of suspected shabu from the bag of a woman who was supposed to visit an inmate Monday morning.

Based on the log-in sheet, the woman identified herself as Jenifer Toto. She went there to visit Jomar Oliveros who is facing a murder case.

CPDRC jail warden Romeo Manansala said Toto arrived around 9 a.m. She was cleared initially by the guards at the inspection room but was ordered to open her bag when she got to access door 175, which leads to the area where detainees meet their visitors. However, Toto reportedly refused to open the bag, contending that she already underwent inspection.

Manansala said he became suspicious of Toto’s refusal so he did not give in and inspected her bag again. There, he found a makeup kit and other things, and a plastic bag that contained earphones, sanitary napkin, and a mobile phone, which is prohibited inside the facility.

Manansala said that when he told Toto that he would have to confiscate her mobile phone, Toto decided she would just get her phone back and will not push through seeing Oliveros. She then left but left the plastic bag behind.

Manansala said it was only around an hour after when he reported the incident and turned the plastic bag over to his superiors. It was at this time when they found the two packets of shabu hidden in the sanitary napkin. Each pack contained approximately one gram of shabu.

Manansala said a guard reportedly saw Toto go inside the rest room after she left the inspection room. The lady guard who inspected Toto the first time said she did not find anything from her. Investigation is ongoing to determine the woman’s real identity.  (FREEMAN)
