CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a driver of a 10-wheeler truck in the death of a public school teacher and the latter’s 11-year-old nephew in Argao town.
Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Argao Police, said charges for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide have been filed against Felixberto Ruba, 46, a resident of Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City.
He said Ruba chose not to undergo preliminary investigation and instead face the charges directly in court.
Last Wednesday, Ruba was driving a 10-wheeler truck in the national highway in Barangay Balisong, Argao when he allegedly hit the Honda XRM motorcycle ridden by Fermin Sardual, 28, and his nephew, Andre, 11.
The victims were reportedly dragged to about 10 meters and were run over by the truck. The victims were heading to a bakeshop not far from their residence when the incident happened.
Earlier reports had it that Ruba tried to escape but was intercepted when his truck fell on its side while evading a fence in Barangay Banhigan, Dalaguete town.
Ruba was on his way to deliver assorted goods to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Contrary to the allegations, Ruba claimed he was neither drunk nor tried to escape. (FREEMAN)
