CEBU, Philippines - A four-year-old boy died after he was hit by a speeding vehicle driven by a barangay captain along the national highway of Barangay Tugbawan, Tabuelan Wednesday morning.
John Ray Matedios suffered severe injuries in different parts of his body. He was rushed to the Felipe Verallo Memorial Hospital in Bogo City for immediate medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Susan Sequillo, barangay captain of Barangay Kinawahan, San Remigio, surrendered to the Tabuelan police after the incident.
Police Officer 1 John Mark Asendiente, desk officer, said that Sequillo was driving her Mitsubishi Montero bearing plate number YKX 718 traveling from Cebu City and was bound north when the incident happened.
Upon reaching the place, Sequillo reportedly did not notice the boy who suddenly crossed the road causing her to hit him.
“Nalingat siguro ang ginikanan unya wala mabantayi nga milabang sa dan,†Asendiente told The FREEMAN in a phone interview.
Sequillo was taken into custody but was released by the police after she amicably settled with Bonifacio and Lilibeth Matedios, parents of the victim.
“Nag-settle ra sila wala ra nadugay nakagawas ra dayun,†Asendiente said. (FREEMAN)
