‘Pusher’gunned down in Toledo

CEBU, Philippines - A suspected drug pusher was gunned down by three unidentified men in Barangay Awihao, Toledo City past 6:00 in the evening Wednesday.

The victim, Jonathan Mejica, 40, a native of Barangay Luray II and resides in Barangay Cambang-ug, suffered multiple gunshot wounds after he was repeatedly shot by his assailants.

Mejica was no longer taken to the hospital due to gunshot wounds he suffered.

Investigation led by Chief Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, Toledo City police chief, showed that one of the assailants texted Mejica to meet him at a place in the barangay.

Mejica arrived on board a motorcycle-for-hire and he was met by a man who then commanded the driver to ran and leave his motorcycle behind.

It was at this juncture that the two other men arrived and shot Mejica several times.

Two empty shells of .45 cal. pistol believed to be from the handgun used by the assailants were recovered by the police from the scene.

Bastes disclosed that Mejica has been involved in illegal drug activities in the area and witnesses have been seeing him talking to men at a secluded area.

“Possible ni siya nga nitambling o wala maka-remit sa iyang halin,” Bastes said.

Police are still investigating the case.

Meanwhile, Badian police have uprooted at least 2,000 fully-grown marijuana plants in the mountain barangay of Basiao early morning Wednesday.

Police could not yet determine the value of the marijuana plants.

Police made the operation led by Insp. Henry Orbiso, Badian police chief, after receiving report of alleged marijuana plantation.

They even expanded their search to arrest the planter but failed.

Only half of the 2,000 marijuana plants were taken to the police station as the other half were burned in the area. (FREEMAN)
