New fiscals for Cebu Province

CEBU, Philippines - The provincial prosecutor's office in Cebu has six new prosecutors.

Provincial Prosecutor Pepita Jane Petralba told The FREEMAN that three of the six have already assumed office while the other three are scheduled to take their oath.

"There were now 28 but there are three others who are about to take their oath," she said.

The prosecutors who have assumed office are Ethel S. Miel, Genevieve C. Tabada and Ludivico V. Cutaran.

Meanwhile, Al Rey I. Quano, Reynaldo Y. Menchavez Jr., and Benison M. Harayo, are expected to assume office on February 11, 2014 after taking their oath. The three are from the Public Attorney's Office (PAO).

"Quano, Harayo and Menchavez, puros gikan sa PAO. Feb. 11 pa sila kay winding up pa sa ilang pending nga kaso (Quano, Harayo and Menchavez all come from PAO. They will join us on February 11 after they resolve pending cases)," Petralba said.

One requirement of becoming a prosecutor, Petralba said, is for a lawyer to have practiced the profession for at least five years.

Prosecutors are lawyers who prosecute another for a crime in the name of the government. They represent the state in court. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
