CEBU, Philippines - Anticipating a much heated barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections come October, police in Cebu City have laid down plans during the Joint Security Coordinating Council (JSCC) meeting yesterday.
Cebu City Police Office Director Noli Romana said yesterday's meeting was just the first of a series of meetings to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls. The meeting was attended by station and unit commanders of CCPO.
"We will update our records and the assignment of personnel. We will assess the situation of every barangay," said Romana.
Romana said they will focus on barangays with the most number of registrants and huge voting population like Barangay Guadalupe, among others.
He said CCPO will be getting the figures from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office so they can start laying out security plans for the identified barangays.
"Based sa May elections, mas passionate ang mga candidates ngayon, so medyo mainit ang election ngayon," Romana said.
A representative from the Comelec will be invited to the next meeting, he said.
This October will be the first time for Romana to supervise the barangay elections in Cebu City.
Other police offices in Central Visayas have also started laying out security plans for the barangay and SK elections on October 28.
Police officials have said they aim to have a generally peaceful conduct of elections just like last May. – (FREEMAN)
