Operators’ contact must be next to LTFRB’s

CEBU, Philippines - Transport operators own the additional numbers in the “May Reklamo Ka, Itawag sa LTFRB” signage installed in public utility vehicles.

This was clarified by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon.

He said passengers can reach LTFRB’s hotline at 231-6221 for their complaints.

Cuizon explained that operators also placed their numbers in the signage as they also want to be informed if passengers have complaints against their drivers or if they commit violations so disciplinary actions can be imposed.

He added that placing the operator’s number is not illegal but LTFRB’s number has to be listed first since it is a priority number.

“Dili man hinuon na illegal nga ibutang ang ilang mga number sa operators kay ato naman na silang gi-ingnan nga priority number gyud ang sa LTFRB and their numbers should only be placed in the secondary and so on,” Cuizon said.

Cuizon said he had called the attention of some operators who placed their numbers on top of LTFRB’s number and advised them to change it immediately.

LTFRB also conducts annual inspection of units and the advise operators to follow the right format of placing numbers on the signage.

“Prior to the registration sa Land Tranportation Office (LTO) moagi pa man na sila nato. Kung atong masuta nga naay sayop, masultihan nato sila nga ilisan ug kon dili gani nila ilisan, dili mi maka-confirm ug dili pod na sila ma-okay-han sa LTO,” Cuizon clarified.

Meanwhile, Cuizon revealed that barangay buses do not need franchises from their office as these are owned by the government.

In the event that accidents happen, the barangay that owns the bus will have to take the responsibility. — (FREEMAN)
