CEBU, Philippines - The naked body of a 91-year-old woman was found lying lifeless along a creek in the mountain barangay of Bulak, Dalaguete at around 9:00 in the morning last Wednesday.
The foul smell coming from the creek led residents to discover the body of Felisa Cariego Tangpos. She was reportedly last seen Friday afternoon before she was found dead.
Police remain clueless on the cause of death but are not discounting all possibilities, including rape and robbery.
Insp. Dexter Basirgo, Dalaguete police chief, said Tangpos was believed to have been dead about four days before she was found by a resident, Carmelito Abrigana.
The body was already in a state of decomposition.
According to Basirgo, the victim’s family revealed that Tangpos usually goes missing but would later come home.
“Mukalit ra kuno nag kawala unya mubalik ra pud maong wala nila pangitaa dayon. (She suddenly goes missing but also returns which was why they didn’t bother to look for her right away.)†Basirgo said in a phone interview.
Basirgo added they are still waiting for the results of the autopsy conducted by the municipal heath officer before a full blown investigation will be conducted.
“Possible rape kay gahukas ug possible pud gi-ango-ango na unya maligo ba kaha unya nadakdak lang. (She might have been raped because she was found naked but there is also a possibility that she wanted to take a bath and fell.)†he said.
The body now lies at the St. William funeral parlor in Barangay Poblacion. (FREEMAN)
