CEBU, Philippines - The family of suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will campaign for her in the 3rd district where she is a candidate for congress should there be no temporary restraining order from the Court of Appeals on her six months suspension.
Garcia refused to step down and has locked herself in her office at the Capitol since the suspension order was served by the Department of the Interior and Local Government last December 19.
Lawyer Ma. Christina Esperanza Garcia-Frasco yesterday said she will campaign in lieu of her mother should their petition for TRO is denied by CA and her mother would not be able to go out to campaign.
“Yes of course, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get the message across that Gov. Garcia will fight for the Cebuanos,†Frasco said.
Frasco said that the Liberal Party’s continued persecution of her mother would help the suspended governor’s candidacy.
Garcia’s supporters from the third district have been visiting her since December 19, 2012.
“I believed that they will continue to support her especially now in this difficult times,†Frasco said.
Frasco supported her mother’s earlier claim that the LP would be committing political suicide in their threat to file various criminal and administrative charges.
Frasco said that LP’s politics demonstrate that they could not wait for a democratic process. She said that instead of waiting for the elections on May LP grabbed the power from the sitting governor, a “grave disrespect to the Cebuano votes.â€
“Definitely, this is not political suicide on her part but on the part of the Liberal Party,†Frasco said.
Frasco is hoping to obtain relief from the court so that her mother will be able to campaign.
The suspended governor’s chief legal counsel, Tranquil Salvador III, visited Capitol yesterday. Salvador said he gave some advice to Garcia but refused to share it with the media.
Salvador believes that Garcia can still win even if she’s not physically campaigning with her family to represent her if she doesn’t get a TRO.—/FPL (FREEMAN)
