CEBU, Philippines - One of the highlights of this year’s Dumaguete City Charter Day celebration is a photo exhibit titled “Miss Dumaguete Through the Years,” at Robinsons Place Dumaguete, from November 16 to 22. The photo exhibit is spearheaded by the Dumaguete Festival and Arts Society (DUFAS).
Organizers say the project took years of planning and preparation. DUFAS president William Dichoso says the photo exhibit is aimed at establishing a complete picture of the Miss Dumaguete pageant, which is very much part of the city’s history. Families of past Miss Dumaguete winners have been invited to contribute photos and data for the exhibit.
In the early 1920s the pageant winner was called the Carnival Queen. Back then it was a money contest, the proceeds of which went to community projects. The title “Miss Dumaguete” was first used in 1926.
The Dumaguete City government is fully supportive of the Miss Dumaguete pageant, which for this year is scheduled to be held at the Lamberto Macias Stadium on November 23. This year’s pageant is expected to use state-of-the-art staging technology. The Talent Night part of the pageant is scheduled at the Quezon Park, on November 20, free to the public.
The Miss Dumaguete has had already produced successful beauty titlists, who did very well in the Binibining Pilipinas and Miss World Philippines pageants. (FREEMAN)
