CEBU, Philippines - Help for survivors of super typhoon Yolanda continue to pour in even after almost a year since the tragedy.
One of the groups that extended help to the survivors recently is homegrown Filipino restaurant chain Golden Cowrie /Hukad. On July 22, the restaurant turned over 10 fishing boats to fishermen in Bogo City. “We want to help the survivors recover and rebuild their livelihood,” said Kenneth Kokseng, general manager of Golden Cowrie/Hukad.
The Golden Cowrie/Hukad employees put aside their Christmas Party funds last year to finance the construction of the boats. Kokseng added, “It was a consensus and collective effort to share whatever we can to help the Yolanda victims.”
The restaurant chain partnered with Gawad Kalinga through its “Balangay Project” to replace the damaged fishing boats of the affected Bogo fishermen.
Painting of the boats and awarding of certificates to the recipients was held last June 12. Present in the activity were the Golden Cowrie / Hukad Management and some volunteer employees. (FREEMAN)
