MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered heightened police visibility nationwide, following a video that went viral online of an alleged kidnapping in Tagbilaran City in Bohol.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered all units to intensify patrols in urban centers, transport hubs and commercial areas to deter street crimes and reassure the public.

“We will not allow any disruption of peace and order that could cause panic and discomfort to the people,” Nartatez said.

The PNP has tasked the Central Visayas regional and Bohol provincial police offices to investigate the incident, which reportedly occurred on March 11 outside a public market in Barangay Dao.

A video circulating online showed a man being forced into a van, but authorities said no one has reported a missing person linked to the incident.

Despite a 12.66-percent drop in crime incidents since January, Nartatez said isolated cases must still be addressed swiftly.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez, Central Luzon police director, said 2,000 PNP members are being deployed in the region to ensure a safe, orderly and secure summer vacation.

Mendez said the campaign, dubbed “Ligtas Sumvac 2026,” would be enforced from March 29 to May 31.

The enhanced police presence will be implemented through intensified foot and mobile patrols as well as police assistance desks in strategic locations, such as bus terminals, air and sea ports, tourist destinations and other public places.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We call on the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activities. Your cooperation is vital in keeping our communities safe,” Mendez said.
