MANILA, Philippines — Criminal cases were filed against two Chinese men who were arrested for kidnapping their compatriots, after an armed encounter with police officers in Angeles City, Pampanga wherein a police officer was killed.
Cases of kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention as well as violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, were filed against Hu Kai and Ryu Don before the Department of Justice in Manila, the police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) said yesterday.
Hu and Ryu were arrested in Barangay Malabanias in Angeles at around 2 p.m. on Saturday as their victims, two Chinese women, were rescued.
The women were kidnapped along Ayala Avenue in Makati on Saturday morning and held for a ransom of P8 million.
An AKG operative, S/Sgt Nelson Santiago, was killed in the ensuing encounter while another police officer, Chief M/Sgt. Eden Accad, was wounded.
A .45-caliber handgun, a .38-caliber revolver, drug paraphernalia, electronic weighing scales, a police cap and jungle knives were seized from the suspects.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil honored Santiago’s sacrifice with the PNP Heroism Medal as well as financial assistance to the policeman’s family.
Marbil gave the PNP Heroism and Wounded Personnel Medals to Accad, who is recuperating in a hospital in Angeles.
