MANILA, Philippines – La Salle kept the UST winless in UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball play, obliterating a listless Growling Tigers side, 91-71, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Green Archers fired from all cylinders right from the get-go, leading by as much as 21 in the first half.
The Tigers though were able to cut the lead to just 11, 36-47, heading into the half.
But La Salle outscored UST, 26-14, in the third quarter and never looked back.
The lead ballooned to as much as 30 points, 86-56, off a Joshua David 3-pointer with less than five minutes remaining in the game as the Archers seized the victory.
The Archers simply toyed with the Tigers’ defense, making 33 of their 71 field goals, good for 46.5%. They also made 14 of their 39 3-pointers.
UST, meanwhile, converted only 33.8% of their field goals.
Kevin Quiambao and Joshua David finished with 14 points apiece for La Salle.
Meanwhile, Nic Cabanero carried the scoring load once again for the 0-3 UST, posting a game-high 25 points and pulling five rebounds. But he had eight turnovers.
It is the Tigers’ 16th straight loss in the league dating back to the last season. The last time they won was on Season 85’s opening day against Adamson.
La Salle now touts a 2-1 win-loss record.
