HANGZHOU – Members of the Philippine men’s volleyball team weren’t even born yet when the country last fielded a team to the Asian Games. It happened 49 years ago during the Games in Tehran. Yes, 49 long years before this representation. And it didn’t last long. The Philippine team bowed out Thursday with a 1-2 record, including losses to Indonesia and Japan, and a lone victory over Afghanistan. For key players Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo, the excitement of being here is enough reason to smile. “Super thankful kami mabigyan ng opportunity and chance to represent ’yung Philippine men’s volleyball team dito sa Asian Games. Sana magtuloy-tuloy,” said Espejo. Simply put, they can’t wait another 49 years.
