MANILA, Philippines - In an effort to turn its fortunes around, Adamson is tapping champion coach Franz Pumaren to call the shots for Falcons in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball.
The Falcons, who placed seventh this year with a 3-11 card, are set to officially designate Pumaren as the new man at the helm in a press conference arranged by sponsor Akari at the Adamson campus tomorrow.
Adamson’s move came on the heels of another much-publicized coaching change. Last week, La Salle surprised everyone by getting the services of coach Aldin Ayo, who piloted Letran to this year’s NCAA championship.
A third team, Ateneo, is currently searching for the replacement of Bo Perasol, who resigned after three seasons. Among the names reportedly considered are former coach Norman Black, current assistant Ronnie Magsanoc and former Knights mentor Louie Alas.
Pumaren will take the place of Mike Fermin, who handled the team on an interim basis following the sacking of coach Kenneth Duremdes before the start of Season 78.
The 51-year-old Pumaren brings with him a wealth of experience and accomplishments in both collegiate and pro play. He steered La Salle to four straight championships from 1998-2001. He gave the Archers a fourth diadem in 2007.
Pumaren also coached Shopinas.com and Air21 in the Philippine Basketball Association.
