MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) named Jimmy dela Cruz as board chairman with the Jumbo Plastic Linoleum owner vowing to steer the league to new heights when it kicks off its new season on Dec. 12.
The league features the top four teams from NCAA, UAAP and Fil-Chinese schools.
“I’d like to thank my fellow governors for their trust and confidence in my leadership. Rest assured that I will do my best to keep the league stronger and be a haven of future stars,” said Dela Cruz, who takes over from Jimi Lim of Ironcon Builders.
A long-time backer of Philippine basketball, Dela Cruz accepted the challenge to lead the league knowing he has the full support of the seven other governors, including vice chairman Terry Que of Rain or Shine.
“By holding this kind of tournament, we hope we can produce future members of the Philippine team,” said Dela Cruz, who maintains a team in the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League aside from supporting a couple of Fil-Chinese high school teams.
As league chairman, Dela Cruz’s company will also be title sponsor of the tournament.
“Under the watch of Mr. Dela Cruz, I’m confident the league will continue to grow,” said Lim.
