Tarlac, Philippines – Luis Castro rallied with a one-over-par 73 in the final round as overnight leader Ira Alido fumbled with bogeys in the closing holes to complete a come-from-behind victory in the 2015 Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championship at Luisita Golf and Country Club Saturday.
Two down after the second round, Castro played with caution against Luisita’s tough and hazardous layout, signing for an even 36 at the turn. He managed to round up the final nine with a 1-over 37, despite a bogey on the 17th, for a 224 total in the men’s elite open division.
Alido came to within two strokes with an easy birdie on No. 16 but he dropped shots on the 17th and 18th for a 77 and 226 aggregate in this event, which is part of the PLDT National Amateur Golf Tour and sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation.
Harmie Constantino (72-220) captured the plum in the women’s elite Open.
Valentin Lopez came out on top in the Mid-Am division with a 242 after an 82 while Efren Leonardo (82-172) won by one off Jose Antonio Narciso (82-173) in Mid-Am 1.
