MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas thwarted Adamson, 69-63, to post its third straight win even as Centro Escolar University-Café France firmed up its hold of the lead in the Smart-PCABL fourth Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City last Sunday.
Candice Magluyo scored a game-high 15 points while Sofie Felisarta struck for six crucial markers in the fourth period to help fend off the Lady Falcons’ fightback.
Three other players scored 10 points for UST, which evened its record to 3-3 for a three-way tie with University of the East and Ateneo-San Miguel Corporation.
The league-leading Lady Stallions, behind Janine Pontejos and Mary Ann Dologue, crushed the Ateneo side, 69-52, for their fifth win in the six-team double-round elims.
After erupting for 32 points in the team’s 74-64 win over Far Eastern University-Multimotors last week, Pontejos slowed down with 14 points that however proved enough to carry CEU to victory in the tournament sponsored CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports, Inc., Dickies Underwear and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.
Dologue finished with 16 points while three other teammates scored eight points or better.
