Tan survives obstacles, sweeps crown

MANILA, Philippines - Bre-Motul karters Paul Laurence Tan and Ronn Catindig dominated Legs 5 and 6 of the Formula SQ 125 division recently in the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.

Tan survived huge obstacles before pulling off a sweep in the SQ 125 Novice class. He secured a 1-2 finish in Leg 5 with runner-up Catindig who later bagged third place in Leg 6 for the Bre-Motul Racing Team powered by Motul, PTT Philippine Corp., Trueblends Milktea, Pilpride-Feeds, Primo Cycles, LockNload Shirts, Ninja Performance, Hcwinch, Progressive Wheels, Samoto and MDU.

“The team pulled through in the tiring weekend races, thanks to coach Pacho Blanco for all the advices and inputs and to our mechanics Ramel Ret Esparagoza, Paulo Ferrer and Chris Castrovuevo who did an excellent job in the set-up, adjustment and speedy repair of our karts,” said Tan.

Tan went through a lot of impediments that could have forced his early ouster from the two-day event. Mechanical problems got him struggling in the Time Trials and turned into a big headache as it wasn’t resolved early and forced him to miss action in the qualifying heat and send him starting last on the pre-final grid.
