MANILA, Philippines - Marvie Bustos and Ivan Moreno took over in the middle quarters as Olivarez College blasted defending champion Rizal Technological University, 67-51, yesterday in the 13th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gym in Quezon City.
Bustos and Moreno combined for 17 points in the second quarter as the Sea Lions broke free from a 13-all count then sustained their form at resumption to power the team to victory, their fifth against a loss.
Bustos finished with 18 markers while Moreno wound up with 14 points.
The Sea Lions also clamped down on defense and went up by as many as 15 points, 52-37, heading to the last 10 minutes of play.
RTU dropped to 4-2.
Meanwhile, Philippine School of Business Administration, behind Aries Dionisio and Justine Puno, trounced Trinity, 85-77.
Dionisio and Puno scored 30 and 25 points, respectively, for the Jaguars, who improved to 3-3.
Nikko Lau shot 18 points for Manuel L. Quezon University, which beat Philippine Nautical Training Colleges, 84-61.
