MANILA, Philippines – San Beda’s Ola Adeogun was named ACCEL Quantum-3XVI NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week after dishing out a pair of strong efforts in leading the Lions to two victories the past week in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament.
The 6-8 Adeogun averaged 23 points, 13.5 rebounds and two blocks in wins over San Sebastian, 86-79, and College of St. Benilde, 78-54, to power San Beda, the reigning four-peat champion and winners of seven of the last eight titles, to the solo lead with a 10-2 9 (win-loss) record.
Adeogun shone the brightest in the triumph over the Blazers, whom he torched with his season-best 18 points including 14 from the free throw line.
For that, the Lagos, Nigeria native emerged the week’s best in the plum backed Bactigel hand sanitizer, Doctor J Mighty Alcohol and Mighty Mom Dishwashing.
“He’s our source of strength from both ends,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez of Adeogun.
Adeogun’s recent efforts put him in strong contention of snaring the MVP award after making it to the league’s Top 5 players in the MVP statistical race after the first round.
He was more concerned though of winning the championship.
“I just want to win the championship, nothing else,” said Adeogun.
Adeogun edged out Jose Rizal’s Michael Mabulac and Perpetual Help’s Earl Scottie Thompson.
