CEU, DLS-Zobel smother rivals in WNCAA

MANILA, Philippines - Three-time defending champions Centro Escolar University and De La Salle-Zobel trounced their rivals in their respective divisions as routs marked the opening of the 45th Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) at Rizal Memorial Coliseum over the weekend.

The CEU cagebelles blasted the San Beda College-Alabang side, 89-30, in the seniors category while DLS-Z overpowered Poveda, 70-22, in the midgets division of the event highlighted by a spectacular kickoff show at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Host La Salle College Antipolo also launched its drive in the event backed by Mikasa, Molten, OneA Bed and Breakfast, Goody, Monster Radio RX 93.1 and AksyonTV with a big 81-35 romp over St. Paul College Pasig.

Philippine Women’s University dumped Assumption College, 81-6; Rizal Technological University dominated St. Scholastica’s College, 79-39; and University of Asia and the Pacific bested Miriam College, 49-22, in last Sunday’s matches.

Other winners were Angelicum College against St. Scholastica, 91-16, and Miriam over St. Jude Catholic School, 77-18, in the juniors division; and the midgets squad of St. Stephen’s High School against St. Paul, 30-9.

Meanwhile, the futsal competition gets going Sunday at UA&P gym with four-time senior champion RTU taking on CEU at 10:30 a.m.
